Freshman Day @ The San Diego Zoo

Howdy Parents!

I just wanted to let you all know that this coming Friday (February 1st) is Freshman Day and the entire freshman class will be going to the San Diego Zoo. I sent permission slips home last Thursday so if you haven't already, please help remind your student to bring it back signed early this week. The permission slip is also available here. We will be departing and returning to school so please plan on a normal pick-up and drop-off schedule at school.

Lastly, students are encouraged to bring lunch or to bring money to purchase lunch while at the zoo. Lunch will be provided for students eligible for free and reduced lunches.

Exhibition

I would like to formally invite you all to the High Tech High Winter exhibition. Your students have been working really hard all semester and their Apocalypto Project should be ready just in time :)

What: A display and presentation of beautiful student work around the school (including your student's).

Where: At High Tech High

When: Thursday, December 20th, 6:00-8:00pm

Parking is sometimes an issue so I would highly recommend arriving early.

Handout Coming Home

Hi Parents,

We sent home a notification slip today and I've provided a link to the document below in case it gets lost en route. In general, this is just a notification that students will be getting polled as part of a study HTH is participating in. There is no need to respond or to submit anything unless you would like your student to not participate.

Student Led Conferences

Hello Parents,

We've already finished our 5th week of school and it's time for Student Led Conferences! We would like to invite you and your student to our classroom so your student can present how they're doing so far this year. They will be discussing their strengths and highlighting their accomplishments as well as sharing their hopes for improvement.

For those that are new to the idea of student led conferences (SLCs), think of them as parent-teacher conferences with a High Tech High twist. We encourage all parents to sign-up.

Permission Slips

Dear Parents,

On Monday, I will be sending home two permission slips. In case they don't make it home - I have also provided links for them here.

The first, from Donor's Choose, is permission for me to submit your child's photo as part of a thank you package for a grant service. All of the materials for the paper automata project (over $600 worth) were donated through this program and "success photos" are part of the thank-you requirement.

Second, is a general permission slip for this year. As part of our curriculum, and as part of team-building, we will occasionally walk to NTC park or other places in liberty station or the surrounding area. Sometimes we will be doing physics experiments, other times we will be writing outdoors or having lunch together as a team.   We just wanted to check-in with you first.

If either of this permission slips make you uncomfortable or if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Open House (and tacos) - This Thursday

Dear Parents,

It's already time for Open House!

What: Open House - an opportunity for you to meet Mike and I, see our classroom, see some of the work your students have been doing, hear about the work your students will be doing, and to meet other parents. And if you come early, the Parent Association is sponsoring Taquiza Fiesta, a free taco party.

When: This Thursday, September 13th, 5:30 - 7:00 pm. (Taquiza Fiesta is at 4:30)
